Algoway – Retired Titan
$250.00 – $750.00 +HST
Description
Launched on June 23, 1972, the Algoway (2) was a medium-sized self-unloading bulk carrier built by Collingwood Shipyards for Algoma Central Corp. It had a total engine output of 6,662 horsepower and featured 17 hatches leading to 4 holds. The ship could carry 20,750 tons at a maximum Seaway draft of 26 feet and 24,000 tons at its summer draft of 29 feet 2 inches.
Algoma Central started a fleet renewal program around 2015, signaling the end for the Algoway. She was laid up in Goderich, Ont., on January 1, 2018, after engine damage led to her early retirement. Sold to International Marine Salvage for scrapping in spring 2018, the tug Evans McKeil towed Algoway from Goderich to Port Colborne on June 6. The next day, they entered the Detroit River with local tug Cheyenne’s help, arriving at the scrapyard on June 9, 2018.
