Nestled alongside the Niagara River in Niagara Falls, Ontario, the Toronto Power Generating Station stands as a historic hydroelectric facility that commenced operations in 1906. Designed by architect E.J. Lennox, designed in the Beaux-Arts style, was Canada’s first fully Canadian-owned hydroelectric plant at Niagara Falls, significantly advancing electricity production in the country. Although it stopped operating in 1974, the station is a National Historic Site and a symbol of early 20th-century engineering and architecture.
As of 2024, the building is being redeveloped into a five-star hotel, museum, art gallery, and event space.The project is expected to open in 2028.
