Description

Bridge 21, also known as The Clarence Street Bridge, is a remarkable vertical-lift bridge situated in Port Colborne, Ontario. Constructed from 1927 to 1929 during the fourth phase of the Welland Canal’s construction, this iconic structure continues to play a crucial role today, seamlessly linking East and West Port Colborne. The design incorporates straightforward electric motors and counterweights, allowing the deck to rise a remarkable 36.5 meters (120 ft.) above the vessels navigating below. The entire process of elevating and lowering the bridge takes about 90 seconds.
It is unique in that the original control hut sits atop the bridge. Imagine being the operator that sat in there as your ‘office’ raised over a hundred feet in the air!

• Canvas fabric weight: 10.15 +/- 0.74 oz./yd.² (344 g/m² +/- 25g/m²)
