Description

An impressive locomotive engine crosses the railway bridge in Dain City. Dain City is a quaint suburb located at the southern tip of Welland, Ontario, Canada. Once, it flourished as a largely self-sufficient rural community at the crossroads of two major rail lines, operating as part of the Township of Humberstone under the name Welland Junction. In the mid-1950s, following its annexation to the city of Welland, the community was renamed Dain City. The area was developed by and for the Marshall Dain Manufacturing Company – now recognized as John Deere – serving as the primary employer in what became known as a “company town.”
